    September 29, 2017 by amorsell

This year I am trying to implement design thinking into our curriculum. We recently read the story, Pig in a Wig. After we read the story and discussed the characters, the children had to create different items that could help the pig. See activity sheet and video.

  2. Making smaller words from bigger words

One of my students favorite centers is going to the white board and trying to create as many words as they can using the letters from a bigger word. The bigger word is usually one of our vocabulary words.

  9. Alternative Assessment

    January 8, 2016 by amorsell

This past week we have spent time reading many different books about Bees. They are very interesting social butterflies. I challenged my children to write down facts that they learned throughout the week on my easel. It was a great way to see what they were comprehending. At the end of each day we went over what we had learned. Here is what it looked like half way through the week. DSCN6624

  10. The Digit Game

    January 8, 2016 by amorsell

I love playing this game with my students because it has them apply so many math skills that we have learned. Each child must draw three cards from the pile. Then they must arrange their cards to show the largest three digit number. The person with the larger number gets to keep the cards. When there are no more cards left in the pile each child counts their winning cards. The person with the most cards wins. There are so many variations to this game. It is a fun way to practice place value and number sense. Have fun playing. DSCN6623 DSCN6625
